Galena, one of the members from Alopecia World came up with the idea of using Haiku (a form of Japanese poetry) as a form of creative expression for those of us with dealing with alopecia. I think it is a great idea and a wonderful way of releasing the emotions that alopecia evokes.
For those of you who are not familiar with haiku, there are many forms, but the basic format is a small poem that comprises of three lines with a specific structure. The first line of a haiku has 5 syllables. The second line has 7 syllables. And the last line has 5 syllables.
Here are some of the poems that have been posted:
I move through the day
Unaware of the staring
I’m glad to be free.
Betraying, no-good,
Come-and-go tresses.
This sure depresses.
We are not to blame
If we have no mane
We need not be ashamed
Sad for the hair loss
Grateful for all I do have
Peace, inner strength, love
